Formed in 2007 as a spin-out from the University of Strathclyde, AppShare is developing a collaborative software solution which allows the sharing of software applications between users at different locations and the technology is designed to scale within medium and large enterprise networks.

Atlas Genetics Ltd
Formed in 2005 as a spin-out from Bath University, Atlas is developing a ‘point of care’ molecular diagnostic platform for the rapid detection of DNA. The company is currently working on tests for meningitis, chlamydia, Group B Streptococcus and the hospital super-bug MRSA.

Biopta Ltd
A spin-out company from Glasgow Caledonian University, Biopta provides contract research services for drug and tissue measurement. It has also developed an instrument which allows analysis of tubular human tissue.

Bloxx Ltd
Founded in 1999, Bloxx is an award-winning web filtering company which has developed novel approaches to prevent inappropriate use of the web by employees. The company has expanded to a multimillion pound operation with products sold in Europe and North America.

Cascade Technologies Ltd
A spin-out from the University of Strathclyde, Cascade has created a technology which uses quantum cascade lasers to provide breakthrough products that create instant DNA type fingerprints of gases, enabling their presence and quantity to be detected.

Clapham House Group plc
Formed by two previous executive directors of Pizza Express, Clapham House Group PLC is an AIM listed company that acquires and develops restaurant formats. Brands include The Real Greek, The Bombay Bicycle Club, Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Tootsies.

Conjunct Ltd
Based in Livingston, Conjunct was formed in 2004 to address the ever-increasing need for higher-bandwidth and higher-speed optical data and communications transmission devices.

Convivial London Pubs PLC
Following the success of their first venture, the Capital Pub Company, founders David Bruce and Clive Watson launched the Capital Pub Company 2 PLC, on 29 January 2004. The company changed its name to Convivial in August 2008 and now manages eight pubs in the London area.

Design LED Products Ltd
Formed in 2004, Design LED Products has developed ‘leaky’ light guide technology which provides an inexpensive method of producing illuminated signs and displays, incorporating colour, movement and animation.

Dimensional Imaging Ltd
A double spin-out from Edinburgh and Glasgow universities, Dimensional Imaging was the first company to be supported by the SMART Equity Scheme. The company provides 3D and 4D image capture systems to the medical, entertainment and other industries.

EctoPharma Ltd
Based in Stirling, EctoPharma is a company developing therapeutic pesticides for specific healthcare and veterinary markets, for conditions such as the treatment of human head lice.

Elonics Ltd
Founded in 2003, Elonics is a fabless mixed-signal semiconductor company specialising in the development and sale of multi-band radio frequency IC products.

imsense Ltd
Founded in January 2006 as a spin-out from the University of East Anglia, imsense is an image signal processing technology company. Im-sense was acquired by an undisclosed trade buyer in July 2010, providing Braveheart with its latest exit.

MicroStencil Ltd
Incorporated in 2003, MicroStencil is a spin-out from Heriot-Watt University. The company has developed a patented fabrication process which allows the manufacture of superior electroformed products.

mLED Ltd
mLED is a newly formed company, spun-out from the University of Strathclyde. Micro light emitting diodes - "microLEDs" are devices made up of thousands of tiny emitters producing light in a compact, integrated package.

NiTech Solutions Ltd
A spin-out from Heriot-Watt University, NiTech has developed a patented mixing technology for process industries. Based in East Kilbride, the company has invented and patented a unique mixing technology known as the Continuous Oscillatory Baffled ReactorTM (‘COBR’).

NXVision Ltd
Originally known as Inxstor, NXVision was formed in 2006. The company is developing place-shifting technology to allow audio and video content to be accessed anywhere in the world from a mobile device, such as a laptop, mobile phone or personal media player.

Optos
Founded and incorporated in 1992 by Douglas Anderson after his five-year-old son went blind in one eye, Optos commercialised a patient-friendly retinal image product that enables retinal examinations to be made more cheaply, effectively and safely.

PSI Electronics Ltd
A spin-out from the University of Strathclyde, PSI is developing an intelligent cable fault locator, the IFL1000p, for detection of permanent and transient faults in low voltage power cables.

Pufferfish Ltd
Formed in 2004, Pufferfish has developed dynamic digital display systems using spherical projection for the events and exhibitions market.

Pyreos Ltd
Formed in Edinburgh 2007, Pyreos has developed a patented thin film pyro-electric ceramic technology for use in a new range of infra-red sensor products. The technology will initally be applied for use in mass market and high value specialist applications such as motion detectors, spectroscopy and infra-red cameras.

Spiral Gateway Ltd
Incorporated in 2004 as a spin-out from the University of Edinburgh, Spiral Gateway is a fabless semiconductor chip vendor. The company is focused on the development of a computer processing platform known as Reconfigurable Instruction Cell Architecture (RICA).

Tayside Flow Technologies Ltd
Based in Dundee, TFT is a medical device company focused on the research, development and commercialisation of cardiovascular devices derived from a new discovery and understanding of the haemodynamic properties of blood.

The Capital Pub Company plc
Formed in 2000 by pub entrepreneurs David Bruce and Clive Watson, with the vision of building an estate of traditional type pubs, each serving its local community, the Capital Pub Company listed on AIM in June 2007.

Traak Systems Ltd
Founded in 2005, Traak is developing intelligent self-learning radio frequency identification (RFID) and sensor solutions for the growing RFID sector. RFID technology is commonly used in a wide variety of industries such as retail, transportation, logistics and healthcare.

Vibration Technology Ltd
Originally based in Larbert, Vibtech developed a high speed wireless solution for seismic surveys in the oil and gas services sector. Vibtech was sold to French company Sercel in October 2006.

Wolfson MicroElectronics
A spin-out from the University of Edinburgh, Wolfson Microelectronics provides engineering solutions in the digital audio sector of the consumer electronics market. In October 2003 the company made its debut on the London Stock Exchange with a market capitalisation of c£250m.
